A few weeks ago I visited Sketch in London’s Mayfair for a quick spot of afternoon tea and cocktails. I’d heard and read loads of good things about Sketch before visiting so I had high expectations of the service, décor and the food.
I have to say, this was probably the best afternoon tea I’ve experienced in London. Firstly the décor was just stunning. The Glade, the name of the room we dined, had the walls painted like a magical woodland bar and it felt as if we were in an enchanted fairy-tale forest.
How cute is this cup!
Artists Carolyn Quartermaine and Didier Mahieu, created
the gorgeous painting for Sketch. Taking inspiration from early c20th
stationery, they re-painted, enlarged and reversed the design, printing it onto
hundreds of metres of paper creating a startlingly modern fairy-tale romance.
The impressive peacock chairs and an eclectic mix of rattan furniture and
created a unique outdoor atmosphere.
The
afternoon tea was a selection of assorted finger sandwiches, sultana and plain
scones and a selection of pastries with a choice of salted caramel and
chocolate fondant.
My
favourite part of the whole selection had to be the egg and mayonnaise, quail
egg, caviar. It was such a delicious combination with a fusion of succulent
flavours.
Only negative point I will make is that the waiting list
was unnecessarily long. We originally planned to dine in the Gallery, but we
were told that there was a one-month wait for a party of six, so we decided to
dine in the Glade which was a two week wait. So If you haven’t visited Sketch
London yet and are planning to, just ensure you book in good time to avoid
disappointment.
Afternoon
Tea at Sketch is priced at £45pp and Champagne Afternoon Tea is £57pp.
