Last week a few of my girlfriends and I took a trip to the gorgeous Rose Lounge for afternoon tea which is located right in the heart of London .
The pastry team at The Rose Lounge took some inspiration from the Royal Horticultural Society’s upcoming Chelsea Flower Show (24-28 May) to devise some truly spectacular confections which we were excited to sample.
My friends and I started
off by selecting a flavour of tea from The Rose Lounge’s collection of
exclusive teas. I opted for the Nuit d’Eté Summer nights tea, a blend of
hibiscus flowers, apple and rosehip with flavours of raspberry, strawberry and
cream. It was so delicious and refreshing at the same time!
We were then served
with the special Chelsea Flower Cocktail which was a mix of vodka, elderflower
syrup, lemon, rose liquor topped with rose’ champagne. I was pleasantly surprised
with the taste as I’m not the biggest fan of vodka in cocktails, but it tasted
really sweet and the champagne gave it a subtle kick.
After indulging in
the Rose Lounge’s Afternoon Tea, which was a selection of fresh scones, cakes
and sandwiches, we were presented with the highly anticipated bouquet of Chelsea
Flower Show desserts.
The desserts were presented so delicately and beautifully we
didn’t want to ruin the creations by devouring them. So after we took a few
snaps of the confections, we dived right in. I started off with the Poppy
Velour: a vanilla sponge cake with a heart of strawberry compote, followed by a
Rose Tartlet: a sweet pastry tartlet shell, filled with rhubarb and grenadine
compote with rose water cream petals. That was about as much as I could handle
as the desserts were pretty sweet, but they definitely tasted as good as they
looked.
For those who fancy making the cocktail we sampled, I’ve
included the recipe below.
Chelsea Flower Show Cocktail
50ml vodka
10ml elderflower syrup
15ml fresh lemon
10ml rose liquor
And top off with rose’ champagne – et voila!
